#OYW2018: the local organisations making the Summit possible
The One Young World 2018 Summit in The Hague is the organisation’s biggest yet, with 1800+ delegates attending from 190+ countries. Hosting an event of this scale would not be possible without the support of local organisations - venues to host ceremonies and dinners, companies to supply food and drinks, and organisations to help inspire and invigorate delegates.
From The Peace Palace to The Pier, find out more about some of the key venues and organisations that are helping to make the One Young World 2018 Summit bigger and better than ever before:
The World Forum
The World Forum is a concert venue and convention centre in the centre of The Hague, and is the main venue for the Summit. It’s the largest auditorium in The Netherlands, with 2,161 seats!
The Peace Palace
The Peace Palace will be hosting this year’s Opening Ceremony. Globally known as the temple of peace and justice, it houses the United Nations’ International Court of Justice where disputes between member states are settled.
On Thursday 18 October, delegates will be invited to attend dinner on The Pier in Scheveningen. An icon on the Dutch coast, The Pier hosts a Ferris wheel, zipline, food trucks and panoramic views of The Hague’s coastline.
The Hague City Hall will host dinner for delegates after the Opening Ceremony. Located in the centre of the city, the striking white building has the largest atrium in The Netherlands. It is nicknamed “the Ice Palace” (IJspaleis in Dutch) by locals because of its white colour.
The external breakout session hosts
This year’s external breakout sessions will be hosted by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, HCCH (Hague Conference on Private International Law), Europol, Museon, MICT (UN’s Mechanism for International Crime Tribunals), OPCW (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) and Eurojust.
This year’s Closing Ceremony will take place in The Hague’s Circus Theatre. The AFAS Circustheatre has 100 years of history and has hosted legendary musicals such as Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King and Miss Saigon.
“Connect, inspire and make it come true” with free postcards and stamps to share with someone you want to inspire with your ideas during the Summit. These cards and stamps are offered by PostNL, the number one service provider in mail and logistics in The Netherlands and Belgium.
Food and beverage
With over 1800 hungry delegates to feed, plus Counsellors, Observers, Partners and the OYW team, we need a lot of food! This year Unilever, Coca-Cola, Lipton, Ben & Jerry’s, to name but a few, are providing food and drinks throughout the Summit.
