Dr. Martin McAleese is a former member of Seanad Éireann (the Senate of Ireland) and the husband of the former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese. He is known for initiating a series of meetings with senior loyalist paramilitary leaders to pursue peace negotiations in Ireland and also helped develop ‘Your Country, Your Call’, an award-winning global competition launched in 2010 by the Republic of Ireland, whose goal was to find two ideas that would transform the economy by creating jobs and opportunity. In August 2011 he was appointed Chancellor of Dublin City University.
