Alan is a One Young World Ambassador from the UK. He was elected as Member of Parliament for Havant in the 2015 general election and is the first elected MP from an East Asian background. He secured a majority of over 13,000 votes in his constituency. He is a passionate advocate of giving young people a voice in business decision making. He delivered a speech to Richard Branson’s B-Team
Alan’s parents migrated to the UK from China in the 1960s and set up a family business which Alan worked at and helped to manage during his childhood. Alan was the first member of his family to attend University. He studied Law at the University of Cambridge and won the prestigious ECS Wade Prize, before completing a postgraduate law & business diploma in Oxford. He worked as a solicitor at Clifford Chance before his election as an MP.
During his election campaign, Alan founded a business and networking club to support enterprise in his community. He now focuses on representing the people of his constituency at Westminster.
