He/Him
Yash Nahar - India
Yash is a member of the team that created Extreme Weather AI, a collaboration between a Harvard University capstone group and NASA that has the potential to address a key challenge of extreme weather forecasting. Along with team members Ian Kelk, Chandrakant Shendarkar, Christina Wang, and Guilherme Zuanazzi, Yash used videos taken from special high-altitude flights to develop computer vision deep learning models and optical flow geometry methods that 3D map the tops of storm clouds. This project has been selected for showcase at the AI For Good Global Summit 2025.
At a time when climate change threatens the safety of populations worldwide, these models can help NASA and other space and weather agencies improve their weather forecasting abilities, potentially saving the lives of vulnerable people. The AI created by Yash and his teammates has the potential to help save significant costs and energy by reducing the dependence on complex radiometric instruments and improve understanding of clouds for accurate atmospheric measurements.

Yodhikson Marvelous Bang - Indonesia
Yodhikson is the Operations Director of Thresher Shark Indonesia (Teman Laut Indonesia Foundation), an initiative engaged in community-based shark conservation. The organisation was created by young Indonesians in 2018 and aims to educate local communities about the status of thresher sharks as an endangered species. Their outreach work has reached 93 schools and villages, and they have facilitated the release of 70 thresher sharks.
Recognizing that 11 households in one of the Indonesian regencies where Thresher Shark Indonesia operates rely heavily on thresher shark fishing, the organization collaborated with local fishermen to develop an alternative livelihood program. This initiative enabled them to transition to other fish catches. As a result, nine out of 11 fishermen shifted away from thresher shark fishing, supported by boat assistance, machinery, fishing equipment, and alternative livestock. Additionally, their skills were strengthened through training in group management, security and safety, financial literacy, and initiatives to involve their wives in the production process.
