The One Young World Community Team works throughout the year to promote impact and action between One Young World Ambassadors. The connections that are made at the Summit are an important catalyst for this - delegates have the opportunity to meet and connect with other young leaders that have the potential to become future collaborators, funders, or even friends. The Community Team and regional Coordinating Ambassadors work hard to provide numerous opportunities for delegates to connect and promote their work at the Summit, from pitching and mentorship sessions, to networking and speaking opportunities. Pre-Summit Digital Networking
From March up until the Summit in July, One Young World hosted monthly get-to-know-you sessions for incoming delegates. These sessions were led by members of the One Young World Community and HQ team, providing delegates with an overview of the Summit experience as well as plenty of networking opportunities. Session timeline:
- Session 1: A Welcome from One Young World
- Session 2: The Issues Shaping #OYWMunich
- Session 3: Speed-networking with fellow Delegates
- Session 4: Connect with your regional Community
- Session 5: #OYW2021 - What to Expect
Regional Meetups
Pre-Summit regional meetups (or "send-off" events) were organised for incoming delegates by regional Coordinating Ambassadors. These sessions provided delegates with the opportunity to engage with their regional community ahead of the Summit and get helpful advice from those that have attended the Summit before.
This year's regional meetups were a mixture of in-person and online engagements. Previous send-off events have been hosted by local British Embassies or diplomatic bodies, at corporate workspaces, and informally at restaurants / bars.

Ambassadors in Action
Every year at the Summit, One Young World hosts Ambassadors In Action sessions which spotlight exceptional members of the Community who have made incredible strides since attending their first Summit. The sessions show first-time delegates how they can harness the energy gained at OYW to drive change in their companies/organisations, lead with optimism and confidence, and/or mobilise further positive change.
The three sessions were hosted by One Young World Counsellors, who one-by-one introduced and invited four Ambassadors to each deliver a 4-minute speech. The Ambassadors shared their stories, the influence One Young World had on their journys, and key actions that delegates can and should take upon their return home.

Mentor Sessions
To better connect the young leaders at the annual Summits with the expertise offered by OYW Counsellors, the One Young World team organised exclusive, invitation-only Mentor Sessions based on key themes. These sessions allowed delegates who are at the forefront of their respective fields to connect with senior leaders they would never have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. This was a unique opportunity for Counsellors to impart their learnings and insight with this impressive group, with the delegates leaving the session motivated to continue driving forward impact and stay connected as a unit.
At the Munich Summit, One Young World hosted 8 Mentor Sessions with more than 25 delegates participating. Counsellors included Halima Aden, Terry Crews, Paul Polman, Ronan Dunne and Ilia Calderon, among others.
Action Sessions
Action Sessions offered delegates the chance to meet and connect with other attendees working across the same issue areas, as well as linking up delegates attending digitally and in person. With the One Young World Summit acting as a convening force for young leaders, the sessions ensured that those who are leaders in their field were able to connect, collaborate and continue to exchange valuable knowledge post-Summit. The 2021 Action Session themes included:
- Agripreneurship & the future of food
- Climate action & resilience
- Driving scientific discovery & innovation
- Policy action, political leadership & international governance
Networking Sessions
During the breaks between in-person sessions at the Summit, One Young World's team of Coordinating Ambassadors hosted informal networking sessions for delegates. Attendees were grouped together depending on their areas of interest and expertise, based on the same topics as the digital Action Sessions.
Pitch Sessions
One Young world hosted three delegate Pitch Sessions during the Summit. Up to 5 delegates per session were invited to showcase the project that they are working on and to share a call to action - whether they are looking for funders, supporters, or collaborators. Once the preselected pitchers had completed their pitch, 1-2 members of the audience were invited to give a 2-minute, spontaneous lightning pitch.
