Former Global Group Chief Executive - BP

Bob is the retired Chief Executive of BP, a position he held from 2010 to 2020. Under Bob’s leadership, the global energy provider focused on the dual challenge of providing more energy with fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

 

Bob had a distinguished 40-year career with BP and Amoco, serving in a broad range of positions and locations. Previous executive roles include leading the recovery and restoration from the Deepwater Horizon explosion, leadership for the Americas and Asia, for the Alternative and Renewable Energy businesses, and for BP’s upstream business in Russia, the Caspian region and Africa. From 2003 to 2008, Bob was President and CEO of TNK-BP, in Moscow.

 

Bob is now a member of the board of Freeport-McMoRan, one of the world’s largest publicly traded copper producers. He is a member of the board of directors of the chemical company LyondellBasell. He chairs Accenture’s Global Energy board and is also chairman of the board of Axio, a Chicago-based private cyber risk quantification company. In 2021, he was appointed to the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Energy Advisory Board.

 

Since 2016, Bob has chaired the international, industry-led Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), an industry group committed to taking practical actions on climate change. Related to this and other successes, he was named the 2018 Petroleum Executive of the Year by Energy Intelligence. He is a member of the US Business Council and a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in Britain.

 

Bob holds dual American and British citizenship. In December 2009 he was awarded an honorary CBE for services to British industry and energy security.
