On August 14, a destructive earthquake hit the island of Haiti. The most affected areas are the departments of the South, Grand'Anse and Nippe. Still rebuilding from a devastating earthquake 11 years ago which killed more than 200,000 people, authorities have currently reported over 2,000 deaths, with 75,000 families impacted, and almost 90,000 homes damaged.
11 years ago, local Haitians were not at the forefront of recovery and rebuilding, thus, donations were not properly given to those in need. This has driven One Young World Ambassador Marc Alain Boucicault along with a team of others in Haiti to launch a fundraising initiative called the Haitian Leaders Impact Fund. This fund supports 100 initiatives that come from areas affected by the earthquake. The Haitian Leaders Impact Fund additionally puts young, local entrepreneurs at the centre to ensure that their communities will recover from this ecological disaster.
