Carbon Markets Specialist/Policy & Strategy Associate Consultant, South Pole
Antonio is a carbon markets specialist with experience working with MDBs, governments, and private institutions. Focused on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, Antonio has managed several assignments, including collaborating with the UNDP to develop frameworks and conduct capacity-building sessions on Article 6 across LATAM, Africa, and Asia. He supported the creation of a global carbon market regulation tracker for Gold Standard and developed decarbonisation strategy recommendations for the concrete and cement sector for the IFC.
Antonio previously served as Mexico's lead negotiator for Article 6, developing and coordinating Mexico's position at key UNFCCC conferences such as SB58, SB60, COP27 and COP28. Additionally, he supported during SB60 leading the Mexican delegation and EIG on the Global Goal on Adaptation. He holds a B.A. in Industrial Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey, graduating with Highest Honours, and has completed climate negotiation training from Harvard University.
