Dr. Gurleen Kaur
Technology and Solar Specialist, International Solar Alliance
I am a Technology and Solar Specialist (Technocrat) at the International Solar Alliance, an influential coalition of over a hundred countries dedicated to advancing global solar energy deployment. My mission is to democratise access to affordable and clean energy, driving solutions that make a lasting impact on both people and the planet.
I earned my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS), where my research at the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) developed innovative, low-cost, and high-efficiency architectures for solar cells using contact passivation technology. With over a decade of experience in R&D, academia and industry across continents, I have worked on advancing the development and characterisation of thin films, silicon solar cells, perovskite tandems, module reliability, and emerging photovoltaic technologies.
In my current role, I provide expert technical and strategic guidance on a wide range of projects, including Integrated PV, AgriPV, Floating PV, BIPV, Reliability and Standards, and PV Waste Management. My work not only enhances technological advancements but also ensures the long-term sustainability of solar energy solutions.
My contributions in the field have been recognised globally and I was honoured as a Female Science Talent in 2021, named a Future Energy Leader in 2019 (one of only eleven globally) by BP plc, and awarded the BP Scholar title in 2019. I was also recognised as an Emerging Young Leader in Asia in 2015 and a Young India Fellow in the same year. I am also one of the youngest individuals elected (and nominated) to the board of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) where I am currently serving.
