Joyeuse Munezero

Founder of JOTENGE DESIGN

Munezero Joyeuse was born in Bujumbura _ Burundi on June 15, 1998, she is the founder of the company JOTENGE DESIGN which is a brand of ready-to-wear and women's fashion accessories Made in Burundi, 100% wax and digital. She is also a capacity building center and she is also the entrepreneurship trainer within the Association for the Promotion of the Young Burundian Girl (APFB).

She is a black woman entrepreneur who has been passionate about fashion since her childhood, before the age of 15, she had already created a clothing shop to have a source of income, contribute to her schooling and put a touch in the clothing of Burundian women to promote Burundian culture. At that time, she did not believe in the realization of a dream that had animated her so much since then, but she considered it a hobby. It was at the latest that she was able to discover through national associations, international organizations and the internet that there are several black women entrepreneurs in the fashion world. In 2016, Joyeuse managed to hone her entrepreneurial skills and obtain a degree at the University of Bugema in Uganda. After her studies in 2019, she was amazed to learn that gender-based violence was multiplying in her Burundian community, hundreds of victims scared her and it gave her an inspiration to use her talent in empowering women and girls’ victims of gender-based violence by offering them employment. IN July 2023, she had the chance to participate in a YALI DAKAR Business and Entrepreneurship training that she acquired new skills and improved them; She did two weeks online and three weeks face-to-face in DAKAR and she is a YALI DAKAR session 22 alumni in business and entrepreneurship. Now, she helps teenage girls and rural women develop the entrepreneurial spirit by knowing their talents and interests. Each participant is empowered and able to implement strategies and tactics to promote their business while improving the economic prospects of their community.
