The Sino-German Essay Competition has been designed to recognise young leaders able to offer strong insights into the future of Sino-German relations based on their professional or academic experience. The winners of the competition will be decided in consultation with a panel of expert judges with extensive experience in business, technology and/or bilateral relations in China and Germany.

Arndt Ellinghorst - Managing Director & Senior Vice President at SANFORD C. BERNSTEIN LIMITED
Arndt Ellinghorst is the Senior Analyst at Bernstein covering European and Asian Autos. Prior to joining Bernstein in 2020, Arndt spent over a decade as a top-ranked sell-side Automotive analyst. He joined Evercore ISI, where he was Head of its Global Automotive research team and led its London office, in 2013, and spent the previous six years at Credit Suisse, where he served as Head of European Automotive Research, Global Automotive Sector Coordinator, and Co-Head of EMEA Equity Research. Arndt also held roles at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein and WestLB Panmure, and began his career working for Volkswagen and Audi.
Arndt holds a Diplom Kaufmann degree in Business Administration from the University of Osnabrück.

Holy Ranaivozanany - Head of Global Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability communication
Holy RANAIVOZANANY is the Head of Global Corporate Responsibility for Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. She is based in Shenzhen, China, and is responsible for social contributions (education and skills, disaster relief) and Sustainability communication including the engagement efforts on Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Circular Economy. Prior to joining Huawei in 2011, she was in charge of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Africa, Middle-East and Asia for Orange S.A. Based in Paris, France, she acted as CSR advisor in 20 countries and was the lead author of the company CSR White Paper.
Holy Ranaivozanany holds a Master’s Degree in Marketing Management from EDHEC Business School in France. She is the recipient of the CSR Leadership and Excellence Award from the World CSR Day, recognizing the contribution made by individuals to drive Sustainability through the business.

Kerry Brown - Professor of Chinese Studies and Director of the Lau China Institute at King’s College London
Kerry Brown is a Professor of Chinese Studies and Director of the Lau China Institute. He is currently working on a study of the Communist Party of China as a cultural movement. From 2012 to 2015, he was Professor of Chinese Politics and Director of the China Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, Australia.
Prior to this, he worked at Chatham House (2006 to 2012) as Senior Fellow and then Head of the Asia Programme. Meanwhile, from 2011 to 2014, he directed the Europe China Research and Advice Network (ECRAN), giving policy advice to the European External Action Service.

Peter Schwarzenbauer has more than 30 years of international experience with premium automotive brands, including BMW, Porsche and Audi, in Germany and abroad. Peter began his professional career at BMW AG in 1984, in various sales and marketing capacities. After leaving the company in 2004, he pursued a number of managerial positions within the automotive industry at both national and international level, including President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America Inc. In 2008, he was appointed to the Board of Management of Audi AG, responsible for sales and marketing. In 2013, he returned to BMW as a board member.

His Ph.D. research on scalable “artificial photosynthesis” was featured in the World Economic Forum’s white paper as an energy breakthrough of the past decade (2020). Elvis is a member of the Technical Working Group on Energy Transition for the High-Level Dialogue on Energy by the United Nations (2021). He is a Lindau Nobel Alumnus (2020), UNICEF Young Changemaker on Sustainable WASH Solutions (2020), BP Future Energy Leader (2019), One Young World Ambassador (2019), and UNEP Young Champions of the Earth Finalist (2020, 2019), among others.
