About the Scholarship

Rappler is the Philippines’ leading digital media company driven by uncompromising journalism, enabled by technology, and enriched by communities of action. It pioneered multimedia reporting and mobile journalism in the Philippines, cutting through various layers to bring news live from the field and merging journalists with broadcast, print, and tech expertise.

Rappler has offered and continues to offer its platform to communities that work for meaningful change. Technology now allows us to work in ways never before possible to create connected communities and inspire digitally fuelled actions for social change. Rappler’s team of data scientists, analysts, and journalists is behind some of the world’s most groundbreaking work on disinformation and the impact of unregulated platforms on politics, democracy, freedom, human rights, and security. Through cutting-edge stories, conversations, and collaboration, Rappler aims to speak truth to power and build communities of action for a better world.

Rappler is proud to partner with One Young World for a second year, to offer five impactful young leaders the opportunity to participate in the One Young World Summit 2025, which takes place in Munich, Germany, from 3 - 6 November.

The Rappler | One Young World Scholarship will support young Filipinos making an impact in one of two areas:

  • Anti-Hate
  • Responsible Tech

Sectors that fall under ‘anti-hate’ could include journalism that seeks to promote peace and understanding between groups, advocacies protecting minorities or vulnerable groups, or any initiative that counters hatred, violence, and abuse.

For ‘responsible tech’, included are advocacies to protect users of the internet, social media, and generative AI from harm; or the use of tech to protect rights.

Scholars will receive:

  • Access to the One Young World Summit 2025 in Munich, Germany.
  • Hotel accommodation in Munich, checking in on 2 November and checking out on 7 November.
  • Travel to and from Munich (in economy).
  • All meals covered (includes breakfast, lunch and dinner on conference days).
  • Ground transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Aged 18 - 30*.
  • Be a national of the Philippines.
  • Demonstrated capacity for leadership.
  • Must have a track record of generating positive impact in either anti-hate initiatives, or initiatives focused on responsible technology.
  • Must have experience in volunteering.
  • Rappler Scholars will also be required to hold a community chat about an issue important to their group, sector, or community. The community chat will be held in any of the public chat rooms in the Rappler Communities app which can be downloaded for free from App Store or Play Store. The scholars will be asked to invite members of their community to join the chat. The scholar will invite resource persons and moderate the one-hour live chat. Rappler will help promote the live chat and create art cards highlighting the most compelling messages or exchanges during the chat. The community chat must take place ahead of the One Young World Summit.

*Most delegates are between the ages of 18 and 30. The One Young World  team will consider applications from those who are older than 30, pending  demonstration of appropriate personal impact, initiative, and willingness to engage. We are not able to accept applications from those who will be aged under 18 at the time of the Summit.

Part of the application requirements is to join the Volunteer Opportunities chat room on the Rappler Communities app. You can download the app from the Play Store and App Store
