Previously Antony was responsible for all of Barclays retail businesses around the world. GRB is made up of four separate businesses and includes UK Retail Banking, Barclaycard, Western Europe Retail Banking and Barclays Africa. GRB operates in 21 countries, employs 70,000 people, serves 37 million customers and has over 3500 distribution points.
In 2010 GRB made a profit before tax of £1,829m. Prior to his 2010 role Antony had been Chief Executive of Barclaycard since January 2006, where he led a revival in the fortunes of the business. Antony was responsible for Diversity and Inclusion at Barclays and in February 2009, he additionally became a Barclays appointed non-executive director of Absa, the South African banking group. From October 2008, Antony was on the Board of Visa Europe Ltd. Barclays is where Antony started his career in finance back in 1983, when he completed the Barclays Management Development Program before going on to hold various roles in retail and corporate banking.
Antony was educated at Oxford University and has a Masters in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. He also has an MBA from the Cranfield Institute of Technology.
